Spiritual Emphasis Week (March 2009):

For the week of March 23rd, we were tremendously blessed on ABU campus to host Dr. Dominic Aquila and Dr. Mike Ross as speakers to the student body.  Each year in the Spring, students, faculty & staff take a week off from normal classwork and receive food for the soul as we sit under teaching from guest speakers, have group and individual prayer times, and focus on our walk with God in a specific way.  It was really a joy to see Dr. Aquila, from our own home church, and to be able to host him in our own home.  This provided a really special time of encouragement and refreshment for our family, and the kids all thought it was really neat to have a guest staying in our own home for a week.  At the end of the week Zoe asked if he'd stay a whole month!  Dr. Aquila replied that his wife might really miss him if he stayed for that long!  Here Dominic is shown with Bentry Muhango, our ABU professor from Malawi.

Chapel Dedication (April 2, 2009):

A major highlight this Spring semester on the ABU campus was the dedication of our newest building, the Chapel of the Hills.  Christopher Copeland, our neighbor and fellow professor on campus has kindly created a photo slide show of this event for all of you to see.  Please click on this link to see some fabulous photos of the Chapel of the Hill's Dedication.  Among the many honored guests, we were most delighted to be joined by the co-founders of African Bible Colleges, Dr. & Mrs. Jack & Nell Chinchen, who are still serving this mission work on the Malawi ABC campus.  The focus of the entire dedication was not on the worship of the building itself, even though it's a magnificent edifice and a result of countless hours of labor, but on the worship of God Almighty, who has given us such a beautiful place to praise His name.  We pray that it will always be used in a manner that praises God's holy name.

Super Saturday (May 9, 2009):

On this particular Saturday near the end of the Spring semester, all students, faculty & staff gathered on the lush, green football pitch (read: soccer field) on ABU's campus for frivolity and fun.  All four years competed against each other and faculty as well in events such as the three-legged race, water balloon toss, tug-of-war, carrying water on head race, arm wrestling, and even a greased pig contest, just to name a few.  This was truly a day of all-out fun for all, and a great way to bond together in a way just not quite achieved in the classroom setting.  At the end of the day, Kurt treated (or terrified) all present with an aerobatics display in the bright yellow MTN (a local cell phone company) plane.  One person commented during the aerial display that "the faculty win."  Although the air show was met with mixed reviews, some scared he was going to crash, and others wishing he'd come pick them up for the ride, it was a unique ending to a very special day.

1st Annual ABU Graduation!!! (May 30, 2009):

The second major highlight on our campus this Spring was the first graduating class of African Bible University in Uganda.  The Pioneer class consisted of 14 brave souls who successfully accomplished all the necessary requirements to receive degrees from our university.  Among these Pioneer's was our Zana Community Presbyterian Church's pastor's wife, Allen Kiwanuka.  It was a thrill to see all of these dear friends reach their long-awaited goal, and we pray that the Lord will lead them all into a place where they will be used mightily for furthering His Kingdom.  To see photos of this major event or many other ABU happenings go to ABU Photo Gallery.  Once again, credit goes to Christopher Copeland for his fabulous photography accomplishments and willingness to share those will all of us as well.

Stay Tuned There's More...

Next to follow very soon...the latest on our Home Assignment in the US, where we'll be and when, and some needs we have that you might be able to help out with while we're back in the good 'ole USA. :)  We can't wait to see you all and share with you more in person!

I always felt that if there was one family I should choose to be enabled to keep in touch with more intimately, that would be the Schmke Family. Yesterday 20th I got subscribed into the net 24 hours a day the next 30 days and so the first web to look up was the Schmke site, and I was not dissappointed. Pray for me for I am not into defending denominationalism and it gets me into all kinds of trouble but I am convinced that is my calling. Greet all the children especially the extremely social fellow, Zoe.
